Totally negligent, I agree. Children should never be pawns in a parent's religious quest.

All people should act responsibly and not inflict their personal religious trip on others. The child's death doesn't prove that God doesn't exist, just that our presuppositions about God and/or the bible, are wrong. Maybe there is a God and that God is totally transcendent per the Deists.

The parents of the little child that died work outside the home, use computers, cars, modern conveniences, but they do not use medicine to treat a dying child? I believe in prayers, so pray for the child on the way to the hospital or doctor. It is negligent not to use available treatment to ease the suffering of a precious child.

if someone gets sick and you do laing on hands and they die.that should prove god doesn't exist.if he did exist the sick should live.since they die every time.that should be proof enough that god doesn't exist.how many children have to die from colds,flu or whatever before these people see the light. it's people like this that make it possible for the hitlers of the world to succeed.

Hi. I'm from Malaysia and I was browsing through the net in search for topics on how to incarnate the gospel into each culture here in Asia when I came across your article. You may have written this article a long time ago, but it still impacted me a lot. I like more articles like this, because we really, really need to make the gospel understandable to people in our Asian culture, with our Asian worldview. Good job!

The end of homophobia is well within sight. Almost all western European countries except italy and greece, recognize gay relationships with marriage, civil unions or registered partnerships. Add Israel, Repub of South Africa, Nepal, Australia, and New Zealand.
and Chech repub.

Closer to home, Canada, Columbia, and Uraguay do the same. Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil have recognition in some areas, to some extent. It is as if the USA is one of the most backwards nations among the industrialized world.

we don't stone people to death, despite the bible. And I recognize there are a lot of good religious people who 'don't mind gays', but are still bothered by it, a perfect example of those who say life your life as you wish, but don't let me see any of it.

This is progress, but what if the shoe was on the other foot. What if heteros holding hands or kissing in public was "terrible", and people said - you hetero's - make sure we don't know you are married or in a relationship.

I hope I make the point. it is a simple matter of justice within our society, which all churches who believe that Jesus Loved All of the Father's creations should support.

Please open your hearts to gay people, and you will be 'loved' (properly) in return. And you will discover some really wonderful people and friends out there, as I and my wife have discovered.

The amount of misinformation about Darwin and evolution is amazing ... and at times frightful. Of the antievolutionists, I wonder how many can explain what they are against? Not why ... what!

I haven't seen this research. Googling seems to indicate the "social support" probably knocks off heavy drinking / tobacco abuse, which would be more than enough to up their numbers :)

Interesting illustration of contextualization. I will be reflecting on it as I pursue a clearer understanding of contextualization of the gospel. I'm apprehensive, however, of borrowing terms from the host/recipient culture wholesale, however, because they carry their own cultural baggage. I'm not sure that the concept of karma carries enough truth to render it a viable transport for the gospel... although it is certainly a starting point for dialogue.

This verse implies that we are made perfect through suffering. ... of Jesus, the writer says ... in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him... Heb 5:7-9
